Steeped in history, the beautiful Ferry Building on Quay Street, completed in 1912, was once the gateway to New Zealand, through whose portals passed passengers arriving by sea. Ferry Building, a Category 1 New Zealand Heritage Structure, features in the New Zealand 100 Historic Places list, and has been beautifully restored, preserving the original aspects. Conveniently located near the Britomart... More

The Ferry Building is a key landmark on Quay Steet close to the shopping on Queen Street and before you get onto all of the activities on the piers. Old style architecture contrasts with the many surrounding new buildings.

Located along the Harbor walk area you'll pass or find the Ferry Building. Its hard to miss and a nice to visit. Also, while there save your appetite for the Botswana Butchery restaurant (located in the lower level of the building).

Well organised and lovely sights to be had whilst arranging transportation to one of the many nearby islands. Toilet facilities nearby, albeit rather limited for the sheer numbers present any any one point.

We enjoyed this waterfront presinct, including the Ferry Building which bears a passing resemblance to Flinders Street Station in Melbourne. It was a chilly day to explore the waterfront, but we managed to find a couple of bars and coffee shops to recharge in.

This was the first building that caught my eye upon arrival in Queen street. Old yet well maintained and definitely a compass point when roaming. Little shops inside as well as tourist information on ferries and short tours.
