When cruise ships come to the Bay of Islands, they always head for Paihia Harbour and the town of Paihia. They always have a market in the town and there is a very friendly atmosphere.

We spent a number of day's biking and walking around the harbor, Waitangi, Haruru Falls and many other areas. The ferry was also a highlight as we have not really experienced this often.

Make sure you have plenty of time to spend wandering around the harbour. There is much to do, good dining, coffee, arts and crafts, most enjoyable.
