Visited for the few hours with our daughter and family from Australia, the weather was overcast it but did not dampen our spirits. Weaving through the displays of trout (of which eluded me this season), the animals and the birds was interesting. We watched the show with the birds who where not impressed with the rain either. The cafe had... More

We wanted so much to see kiwis during our trip to NZ! We went in the evening just to see them. If the dark aviary is quiet enough (and it was.... We had it for us at a certain point) you get the chance to see the kiwis walking around in their fenced living area . It was magic!!!! To... More

Don't let the name confuse you, this is a nature park that will let you discover much more than trout: 1 Redwood trees that grow better here than in California 2 how smart kias are 3 the natural nocturnal habitat of kiwis where they sleep 18-20 hours a day and have the shortest beak (tip to nostril) 4 so many... I always visit Rainbow Springs when in Rotorua. The best way to get value for your money is to pay the $50 which includes a behind the scenes tour of the Kiwi Encounter. The tour shows you some of the up close workings of operation nest egg, and if you are lucky you get to see a small and gorgeous... More

If you want to learn about the Kiwi bird, this is the place to go. However you'll need to pay for extra for the tour. Simple admission allows access to some pretty scenery but not much of it. So if you pay extra for the tour and are interested in Kiwis this is the place to go. If not, give... More

I'd definitely recommend a visit here if you're in Rotorua. We saw our first live Kiwi's here and we even returned at night to see them in their outside enclosure (since they're nocturnal) which was an incredible experience. The bird show was also really interesting, a great little way to break up the day!

We did the behind the scenes tour of the Rainbow Spring's Kiwi Breeding Program that was educational & enjoyable. The park is beautiful to walk around and learn about the native plants, trees & animals. We even returned at night to see the kiwis in the outdoor enclosures. The park is beautiful at night as well. The bird show and... More

To see how Kiwi conservation is being carried out was something else. The young hatching and seeing some adults in natural environment you can see why they need to save this native bird. Go see and go help.
