Had the most amazing morning here, so much to see - I think this is the best thermal park I have seen so far in NZ, and I have seen a few! It is quite a drive away from Rotorua - probably around 45-50 mins.

I really loved being in the boat and seeing the glow worms. I have to say that it is spectacular. They charge way too much for photographs that are taken prior to entering the cave. They do not allow photographs inside the cave.

Great visitors spot. Many photo opportunities. Reasonably easy walking track. Recommended timeframes fro walk was accurate. Friendly staff.

Wai-O-Tapu is pure geo-thermal and has different colours of slurry based on the material beneath. Te-Puia has geo-thermal as well as cultural program, museum, KIWI bird, etc. You can avoid Wai-O-Tapu if you are not very keen... More

Yes it is - however not advisable due to costs. It may pay to look online at the Intercity Bus or other operators that come to us daily like Headfirst Tours and the like. A taxi is an expensive option.
