Located just a few minutes from central Rotorua I recommend that if you are touring in that area you take a small detour and visit the Maori village of Ohinemutu. We arranged to meet one of the wonderful residents who walked us around his village...More

This place is home to the Ngāti Whakaue tribe, a sub-tribe of the Te Arawa waka (canoe) which journeyed from the Pacific homeland of Hawaiiki to New Zealand around 1350AD. The location was chosen for its lakeside setting and abundant geothermal energy, used for cooking,...More

We took a stroll around the village at sunset, there was nobody about and the lengthening shadows made it almost spiritual. The only sounds came from the bubbling pools and Geo thermal activity which is all around you. The church, cemetary and abundant Maori carvings...More

It was a stormy grey day when we were here and that added to the atmosphere of the settlement next to the choppy waters. The Meeting House was closed for a private function but it was good to walk around the area including St Faith’s...More

On walking around this area, I found it a very quiet, spiritual place. It is in a beautiful spot right on the lake's edge. The church and marae building are beautiful. This is a place of solace, and respect.

The local area/community around the Church is worth at least 30 minutes of your time. You'll see plenty of thermal activity from drains/people's gardens, Maori sculptures and a Maori meeting house.

There's more to see in Rotorua than just the geothermal pools. Go down to the lake and you'll find this 'living Maori' village. It's possible to just walk around by yourself or book a guided walking tour. St Faith's church is lovely, just be aware...More

Interesting to see how people live in between hot pools and steaming wells. Historic church and beautiful setting at the Rotorua Lake.

We were looking for the church and found this little suburb of Rotorua. It was a lovely surprise even though the smell arising from some of the vents were less than appetising
