Brilliant museum with Maori and early settler artefacts and history including many farm related devices, if you have a couple of hours to spare in New Plymouth, you will be fascinated and pleased by the exhibits in this great building.

If you are in New Plymouth as well as the Govett Brewster gallery, don't miss a visit to the Puke Ariki museum. Really great exhibits ... the format of the information is engaging and makes finding out interesting facts a real pleasure. Great places to...More

Interesting given the history of the country, which is arguably controversial. The exhibits, which are few, might need to be more interactive to attract. At the time I went the main exhibition was of swimwear through the years but not really of great interest. Upstairs...More

We booked a 2 hour walking tour of the central New Plymouth area, organised by the Museum. The volunteer guide was very knowledgeable about the early history of New Plymouth and took us to places in the central city we wouldn't have known about. Cost...More

I was pleasantly surprised how well this museum is curated. A good range of exhibits and interactive content. It’s a great place for young and old. If you are with wee ones the treasure hunts are fun.

Really fun place. Cafe was fab, delicious hot chocs and sandwiches surrounded by books and magazines.

Puke Ariki is a great museum focusing on Taranaki and its geography and people. I especially liked the gallery on the local Maori iwi. Lots to read, see and interact with and perfect on a very stormy morning! Free entry is a massive bonus.

Like Pukeiti Park, Puke Ariki is always on our visiting list for New Plymouth - it is very central and well worth a visit.
