Well known beach walk, dogs allowed. In fact most of the beach visitors are surfing or have canine companion in tow and mostly off lead. Locals are viligant in cleaning up after their pets and will comment if u don’t follow suit. Only walkable at...More

Came across this beach by accident but was really glad I did as it is beautiful. There are some parking places right near the beach itself so no tracking down a hill. Once on the beach there are a few rocks so be careful, but...More

While this is part of the coast and beaches you see across New Plymouth, it is not busy and you could just watch the Pacific slamming against the boulders.....

Beautiful beach with soft balck sand, amazing clear water and big waves! Best beach I've been to. Auckland does not have beaches that could compare to this kind of beauty. It was super fun going down the sand dune hill but literally died going back...More

Had no idea there was a bottom car park. Accessed the beach by walking down the steep 70m sand dune from the top car park. Negotiating the dune back up was an experience I won't forget, not for the unfit. Stunning scenery and soft black...More

Breathtaking scenery and beautiful black sand beach. The stair case down and up from the beach is a workout in itself but nice to cool down in the water

This is a stunning beach and glorious to walk along at low tide. The magnificent geography is completely enhanced by the enormous chimney and, if you get the right angle, you can view Taranaki with a series of industrial water tanks in the foreground. Seriously,...More

Even though there were lots of people in places along this beach on a sunny Sunday afternoon, there will still places where there wasn't anyone at all. Gorgeous scenery, interesting geology and places to sandboard down a steep dune. What more could you want?
