Finished the Taranaki Garden Festival here before driving home to the Wairarapa. The gardens were a highlight of our four day trip. Beautifully laid out with magnificent Rhoddies. Also some significant work going on upgrading the place so we will return with interest!

To get there the road is steep ,narrow ,but no problem ,if you adjust your driving to the condition It is not far from New Plymouth. We were there when all the Rhododendron were out ,but it has a lot of rain Forrest as well you could easily spend a day there .The visitor centre is at the moment being renovated

We arrived in the late afternoon and still enjoyed the walk around this developing garden. It is on a slope so you need to be prepared to walk back up

A very restful garden, beautiful surroundings, which is relatively wheelchair friendly. There was a little "train" which took us around the gardens, which was fantastic, as we would not have been able to see the gardens otherwise. Pleasant and helpful staff.

Whilst there are some development works in progress, they do not decrease the pleasure in visiting these gardens. Admission is free and there is a terrific display of a variety of planting. Colourful blooms are abundant. There are wider paths and smaller tracks meandering through the shrubbery. At the moment the refreshments are in temporary accommodation but the welcome is... More

Pukeiti has been taken over by the Regional Council. While this will probably be a good thing in the long run the very minimal facilities available during the Garden Festival was a significant disappointment. The gardens themselves looked in need of a considerable amount of work and Xanthe White's much touted Misty Knoll is nowhere near ready for prime time.... More

OK - we decided to visit Pukeiti when at the Garden Festival this year. Unfortunately after driving along a long winding narrow road we arrived to find the park under reconstruction - the centre itself was closed as was the cafe - there was a temporary cafe set-up by the car park but this wasn't very good - we waited... Accessibility on the tracks was difficult for me but I was also unaware that a little open sided train/bus was available. Had I known this then I would have enjoyed the visit much more. What I saw was lovely but many grounds and buildings were under development so the "wow" factor seemed limited.

Simply stunning and well worth the drive. The vision of the family that originally conceived these gardens is applauded as is the work of the volunteers and the staff who keep it in such great shape. We wandered about enjoying the scenery as much as the diversity Great cafe onsite too!

Went last week of October and the Rhododendron blooms were truly stunning. Every colour you could think of! Ground under some that were just at the end of their flowering looked like snow. Most however were at their peak. The walks are clearly sign posted and the paths well maintained so suitable for everyone of every ability. Lots of little... More
