Incredible and very special place in the heart of Wellington, easy to get to on free shuttle bus or cable car if you don't have transport.

Great place for a walk
Apr 2021
Worthwhile taking the family through here. You need a couple of hours if you are going to do the walk around the whole park. We just walked for a half hour and then turned around. Loved the interactive bird area, where you push the buttons and the bird calls are transmitted. It brought some of the birds down to the forest area we were at and we sat and watched them foraging for a while. Wonderful calming place. Dined at the cafe, which was nice too. Food great and service good too.

morepork and kiwi!!
Jul 2021
A crisp winter evening saw the tour start at the very reasonable time of 4:45 pm. Exceptionally knowledgeable guide, and John the volunteer bird spotter did a fabulous job. Highlights of the tour were a morepork calling in a tree and a kiwi in the middle of the track (no peeking around branches to see this specimen of NZ culture).

The evening ended with a hot cuppa, and the start time mean there was enough time to get into town and have dinner.

Highly recommended, and the price of entry includes a years membership.

Sounds like you had a great Zealandia by Night tour! Winter certainly allows for ideal timings and some amazing wildlife only seen at night. We're glad you're excited about your membership, which is included with full price Zealandia by Night tour tickets. Hope to see you again soon! :)

Pretty awesome spot that is hard to believe in the middle of a city. Some great walks for all abilities and great to see some bird life that isn’t seen often.

Everyone need to come here. Magical sanctuary. Love the kaka feeding stations. There was one super angry kaka though. He was a jerk.

Must do in Wellington
We visited in the rain, 2 kids plus me on the 2 hour walking tour. It was great. We spied heaps of bird life, and would have missed lots of info and some sightings without the informative guide. Definitely money well spent, and for an awesome ecological park.

Must do (even in the pouring rain)!

First time visitor to Zealandia
Dec 2020
The Information Centre was a good facility but we were a bit disappointed that the outside Ecosanctuary areas were not more developed with more special features of interest. Its a nice bush escape from the city for a walk but without further development we unfortunately woulnt visit again.

Kia ora team. The sanctuary is in the midst of a very exciting conservation project to restore the lower reservoir. We also strive to keep the valley as natural as possible so it feels like home to our rare native wildlife. If you choose to visit again, we'd recommend a guided tour where our expert guides will take you to the best places to spot 40+ species of native animals.

Birds up close
Apr 2021
Great info centre, easy walks, and endemic birds that aren't too wary of visitors. We got some awesome close up photos of robins, saddlebacks, kaka, and tuataras. Only had a couple of hours there but could've spent the day there easily - and that's with a teenager!

Good value annual membership
Apr 2021 • Couples
It took us a long time to discover Zealandia so we are sad we wasted so much time, but what gem. Love the idea of a 500 year vision to return the valley to its original state. The bird noise is incredible. Only place in NZ where you can see all the top natives in a single vista.

Annual membership is well worth it for locals. Always something new to see and explore.
