It's a very beautiful cemetery and a piece of Wellingtons history. If anyone is unsure, there is a pedestrian bridge that connects each side of the cemetery, over the motorway, also connecting you from Wellington City to the Botanical Gardens. The cemetery has been beautifully maintained and full credit to the staff that maintain it :)

I don't usually recommend Cemetery visits but the Bolton Street one is a very interesting add on the Walk back to the City from the Cable Car Lookout via the lovely Botanic Gardens. It is certainly worth spending 10-15 minutes brousing through the interesting people who ended their days in the Bolton Street Cemetery.

We walked thru this cemetery on our way down from the Botanic gardens to the city centre. It is well cared for and interesting to view the old headstones.

Hidden away but worth a wander through. Peace with so much noise and chaos directly below you. Go investigate!

It is interesting to see the old gravestones from the 1800s and see the rough times the original settlers faced.....so many died at a young age, families lost many children....it really strikes home as you read the gravestones how hard it must have been in a time before modern medicine. It is also a peaceful walk, you can see evidence... More

The path back from the Botanic Garden goes through the center of the cemetery. It was well maintained and had a paved walkway through it. Unfortunately, though, they put a freeway through the center of the cemetery. They built a walkway over the freeway so you can get to the other side.

The graves of Bolton Street tell wonderful stories about the history of Wellington - it is a quiet intriguing place to be - an oasis in the city

We walked through the cemetery on the way back to the city after visiting the Botanical gardens. The cemetery is nicely kept, and is interesting, but we didn't spend much time looking at the details to be honest!
