This is a very well known and historic Church of Wellington. Specially if you are going towards Mount Victoria you can stop by and have a look at its beautiful architecture.

Iconic landmark buildings for Wellington. Everyone knows this church/landmark, I wonder how many people have actually been inside. The stained glass windows are exquisite, some of the best I have seen. Free guided tours on Tuesday and Saturdays at 215pm, or any other day a cruise ship is in town. Entry is free but 'koha' (donation) is always welcome. Refreshments... More

Although I am not strictly a 'visitor', I see from comments already lodged about this beautiful building that there is some uncertainty as to whether one can go inside. Within the last few days there has been an article in the local press which suggests that the monastery will shortly be open on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons for those wishing... More

We saw this Monastery during an evening while walking around Oriental Bay. It it set high up on top of a hill and looks quite impressive. We later saw it while driving to Mount Victoria look out, still a very pretty building. Not sure you can visit inside.

From the harbour side, this structure stands out. Given that churches in the old days always picked the best spot on a hill, just assumed it was a church. My wife thought it was a monastery so it turns out we were both right. Saw it close up as we returned from Mount Victoria and it certainly is a grand... More

I love the interesting textures, shapes and colours of old buildings. Think I might do a church-crawl in the near future and take a photo journey around the remaining oldies in Wellington

St Gerard’s stands out like a beacon on the flank of Mount Victoria, overlooking Oriental Bay. The church is quite nice, but was unfortunately closed when I walked up to it. An interesting stop-off on the way to the peak, but if you want to go inside, check beforehand.
