Beautiful spot and fun to people watch! Lots of cafes, restaurants, shops and other popular tourist attractions are just minutes away. Street performers and buskers and people selling crafts. The man with the singing dog is awesome such a cute friendly dog!

Lake Wakatipu is 80km long, 5km wide at its widest and an average depth of 320m with a maximum depth of nearly 400m. It is a dog-legged glacial lake, the longest lake and the 3rd largest in New Zealand. 5 rivers flow in and one, the Kawarau, flows out near Frankton. The water in the lake is very clean at... More

It's bloody freezing at this time of year, so I don't recommend going for a swim. Head along the Glenorchy road and there are a few good stop-offs within minutes of leaving QT.

We are staying at the Garden court and have now walked to the lake several times. The views are absolutely incredible and if you get down to the lake for sunrise even better. This is a must do activity in Queenstown NZ.

The lake nestles the city / town of Queenstown. It's grand and majestic. The drive towards Te Anau through this lake is quite spectacular. Just many photo options. The remarkables on the backdrop just provides the perfect setting for more pic.

There are many lakes in NZ and they all have their own characteristics. Lake Wakatipu is blessed to have the Remarkables and other mountains as backdrops so it is one of the more beautiful lakes. To view the lake in all its glory, the best view is from high above. If you can afford a helicopter ride, that would be... More

We were really blessed to be able to enjoy an extraordinary amazing awesome panorama along our way from Milford Sound to Queenstown, especially as the weather was also in our favor. It was a clear sunny afternoon to enjoy the full astonishing area of Lake Wakatipu ! Since we were traveling in a group using a quite big bus, unfortunately,... More

We stayed at YHA lakefront which is right next to lake wakatipu. It was autumn. Rained the whole week while we were here. But on clear mornings, the view was spectacular :)) Recommend to have a nice morning walk in the park along Lake wakatipu. Do layer up as it gets pretty cold due to the wind.
