The bush makes for a great tramping ground; the circuit takes only about 15 minutes, so good with small kids. The House, however, is filled with stories, and it's important you hear them to understand the import of what you are seeing, so by all means try to get the guided tour. Understanding the role the House and the family... More

I understand that unspoiled native bush is increasingly rare and under threat.Reserve protected by double entry gates to keep out undesirable wildlife. A relatively short walk but well worth it.

This lovely House and Bush was a real find. A local resident took us here so we could experience a natural habitat for kiwis. Yes, kiwis live here right in the middle of Christchurch. They only come out at night so we didn't see any. This House is right on the banks of The Avon River and a lovely setting it... More

Sadly we don't have any kiwis in Riccarton Bush. About four years ago we ran a trial with kiwis in the bush but it wasn't that successful so it wasn't persued. Thanks More

A beautiful heritage home . A must visit for morning coffee/tea or lunch. There are tours of the house must be booked though. Recently renovated after earthquake damage. Saturday markets with local produce.

Riccarton House near the Riccarton Mall is along the Avon River in Christchurch. It is an old Scottish house in New Zealand. In 1843 John Deans built the first cottage which was very small. In 1836 Jane Deans built a new bedroom call the " Morning room" to keep warm. In 1874 she built the grand dinning room to celebrate... More

It's magnificent to go for a walk along the track in Riccarton Bush on a sunny day. It makes me feel tranquil because even if it is located in quite a crowded area in Riccarton, the bush is completely isolated from the hustle & bustle of the streets by unique and wild native bush . You can also hear birds... More

I had an enjoyable time because there were very comfortable and peaceful places to look around. We drank a cup of coffee and ate a scone with our class teacher and we were talking a lot. We learned about the first European settlers, the Dean's family in Christchurch. It was interesting and relaxing.(Sunghee)

Yesterday I was pleased with the historical tour there. My adult class mates, my teacher and I went for walk for about an hour. It was a very peaceful. We saw some native trees. And our speaker was nice. She told us about Deans family. It was good for us to learn historical information about the Chch area. The restaurant... More

The beautiful bush and small cottage was made long time ago in 1850 so it is very historically significant to see this. Riccarton bush looks like a part of Milford Sound track right in the middle of the city. The coffee, scones and muffins were delicious so we enjoyed that.
