This is a lovely wetland area and on a nice day it's s brilliant place to wander in the sun and watch the birds while getting some exercise. We had to shoo a fair few cats away. Collars with bells owners please!

Wonderful 6km loop walk. Swamp had a great raised dry path. Lots of variety of birds. This time of year there were lots of active nests. Great way to spend the day and one of the few opportunities to see birds outside of a zoo...More

Driving past in the evening with the Southern Alps as a backdrop gives a great sense of what Canterbury would have been like before Christchurch arrived - swamp, cabbage trees and flax. I like Ch-ch for its historic feel, both native and English. Pity that...More

Once known as "Travis Swamp", the increased value accorded to wetlands nowadays is reflected in its new name! Popular with walkers, this is an interesting pace to visit during the duck breeding season. The hides are fun for kids. A bit more effort needs to...More

Allow about an hour just for this easy walk - longer for viewing time. The path is well formed and suitable for prams and determined users of wheelchairs. NOTE: bikes and dogs are not permitted. There is a viewing tower near to the south west...More

At one point this whole wetland was going to be made into a housing estate (Travis Country was once also a wetland), by saved by some Cantabrians with foresight.

We took our kids and their cousins along the wetlands walkway and thoroughly enjoyed it. The track is wide enough for the kids to run ahead, but if you take your time there's lots to see, including Pukekos and eels.

We use this circular track nearly every week for a walk through the wetlands. There are people who look after the wetlands with planting and weeding. The bird life is varied and native planting increases every year.
