Travis Wetland is just to the north east of Christchurch. If you want a peaceful walk with the chances of literally tripping over numerous wildfowl then this is the place. It's a well managed area with viewing platforms and a well signed path that circumnavigates the area. There are wide ranging views of the Port Hills to admire. You can... More

Allow about an hour just for this easy walk - longer for viewing time. The path is well formed and suitable for prams and determined users of wheelchairs. NOTE: bikes and dogs are not permitted. There is a viewing tower near to the south west corner and a bird hide on the east side. Education Centres near to Beach Street... More

At one point this whole wetland was going to be made into a housing estate (Travis Country was once also a wetland), by saved by some Cantabrians with foresight.

We took our kids and their cousins along the wetlands walkway and thoroughly enjoyed it. The track is wide enough for the kids to run ahead, but if you take your time there's lots to see, including Pukekos and eels.

We use this circular track nearly every week for a walk through the wetlands. There are people who look after the wetlands with planting and weeding. The bird life is varied and native planting increases every year.

After reading about the Travis Wetland walks my husband and I set out for an afternoon. After finding the carpark and the sign we were a little disappointed to discover that there were earthquake works being undertaken on the walkway. Nevertheless we decided to set off on the open part of the trail. To be honest the trail through a... More

If it wasnt for the the passion and drive of one woman,AnneFlanagan , we would not have had this beautiful natural area in the middle of our city.It is an ever evolving project and the people who are carrying on her dream are to be commended .

Bird lovers will love this place. The wetlands are full of birds I don't know, there is an information hut where is all explaned. Flat walking with the odd raise is easy for most people. Wheelchair friendly, but would still take someone to assist in the odd place.

It may have been hit a little hard in the quakes but honoustly you have to look hard to see the difference. All I could see is the water table may have risen a bit due to the liquifaction but to be honoust it hasnt taken away the beauty of the area
