Top o the hill

what great architecture, sitting on a superb sight, definitely worth the walk up the hill even if you are not a church goer.

This beautiful Catholic Cathedral is a must see for all. The architecture and stained glass windows. I was so lucky to be at the school next door this. We always take our visitors there. We love to show off the Cathedral. Dunedin has so many iconic buildings and this is one of them.

The Cathedral is set part way down a long hill and had numerous steps leading up to it. Substantial on the outside and pretty inside.

Walked up to the cathedral and was surprised that the priory next door is abandoned and falling apart. It detracted some what from the grandeur of the building. It is quite plain inside but the piece de resistance was the 7 stained glass windows of the saints. There is a neat brochure that you an get that explains all about... More

The Cathedral is located on a hilly intersection with road side parking and rear parking for church goers. Inside it is a typical catholic cathedral with stained glass windows and rows of pews. It is a rather steep walk if going by foot, so be prepared.

The church is located off the beaten track from the hustle and bustle of the Octagon. Up the hill and around the corner, the views are lovely. Not many tourists fill the space which makes for peace and quiet. The windows are lovely.

After visiting the Anglican cathedral, we walked up to St Joseph's Catholic cathedral - up being the operative word, as the walk was very steep. We were pleased to find the cathedral open and sat down for awhile to catch our breath, We found it a very quiet and peaceful place to spend a little time in thought and medication.

Pleasant enough cathedral, but rather spoilt by the derelict former nunnery alongside. That is a magnificent building, and it's a sad comment on the church authorities that they have allowed such a beautiful building to deteriorate to this level. Hope they will see the error of their ways and get their act together soon.

This Cathedral is just as beautiful as St Paul's in the Octagon but is outside of town so not many people visit it and has a much more peaceful atmosphere. It is also right next to Hogwartz backpackers so easy to visit if you don't want to walk far but want to get out of the hostel for a short... More
