This is an iconic building in Invercargill and if nothing else, must be photographe3d. Unfortunately it is no longer accessible due to concerns over earthquake damage but nevertheless is worth a look in my opinion

The Water tower is supposed to be a main attraction but it might be difficult to find. It is very close to the Queens park and both things could e done at the same time. However it is closed to the public due to risk of earthquakes.

Walking past all you need to do is look up at it, enjoy the brick work, take a photo or two and move on. It's impressive and you cant go inside it anymore as far as I'm aware however there are better water towers out there.

Invercargill is flat, so you can see the Water Tower from all parts of the city nearly. Beautiful old building. Another example of the founders thinking the city was going to be bigger than it is. Supposedly you aren't able to go to the top anymore due to earthquake concerns, even though the Invercargill area is one of the least... More

You can pretty much see the Water Tower from all parts of Invercargill. Great to see an historic piece of local history still standing and cared for.

When we were in Invercargill it was closed because of earthquake collapse concerns, under the circumstances this appears very reasonable. It is quite an amazing building from close up. You can really get a sense of its size and the damage it would cause if it fell down.

Prior to coming to nz I contacted council about the fact I would like to tour. I have been told you can no longer access the water tour because of earthquake problems. Unsure if this is true but a shame.
