A decaying heap of metal that was once a proud and beautiful steam locomotive. If the owner wont do anything with it tjen give it to someone who wants to look after it.

The Kingston Flyer is an old steam train that ran between Kingston and Gore, Invercargill, and less frequently, Dunedin back in the 1980s. The train is no longer used for passengers, but was still operational as a tourist attraction when we saw it by chance...More

Went to Kingston to see the Flyer that is STILL advertised and it just don't exist anymore, all there is is one carriage under a cover and the overgrown track. It looks like they were starting to build a housing estate on what was the...More

I wonder how many people drive into this small town disturbing the peace looking for the Kingston Flier. The tracks are well overgrown, there are only a few old carriages and it looked to me out of use many many years, my guide book published...More

By the time we visited the place in April 2015, there was hardly anything left at the place, which is a shame. Still, lake Wakatipu‬ and its surrounding are beautiful and there's a nearby waterfall if you want to go on a short tracking adventure.

Rode on this fabulous train a few months before it was forced off the track with a cracked boiler. Standing outside at the front of the carriage directly behind the engine a tender, smoke, soot and steam blowing in your face was an incredible experience....More

We drove down to look at what was happening only to find rolling stock and two lovely steam locomotives going to waste in a fenced off area. The station building is festering away too. We understand that the attraction is currently for sale but the...More

Took a lovely lakeside drive up to Kingston in the hope of riding the Kingston Flyer ... It's definitely over. Lovely little town though and friendly people, but the different train areas look like they have been totally disregarded

Although we new the flyer was closed permanently (the business is for sale) we visited to look at the buildings and rolling stock. We had taken a ride on it 20 years ago so such a shame that it's not operating. Do hope that someone...More
