Visit the Te Anau Glowworm Caves - an underground network of limestone caves lit by hundreds of glowworms. In the darkness they produce a glittering display. Carved out by the force of the river, the underground world is surprisingly beautiful with whirlpools and roaring waterfalls. Begin with a scenic cruise across Lake Te Anau and then our nature guides will take you in groups through the caves and then in a small boat into the grotto. Departs Te Anau.

Be ready to get splatter with droplets in the cave. Be okay with darkness and crouching at times. But it's worth the trek in to see this glow worm experience. It was a great activity though probably a one off thing.

I was sceptical about yet another tour but this one was very special and a great overall experience. Highly recommended!

Lots of folk taking the tour. Good boat trip but then we were divided into groups and passed from guide to guide rather impersonally. As tourists we listen attentively and we obediently do as we’re told. I’m very biased as the cave structure gave me...More

The staff are fantastic and very knowledgeable. The glowworms are quite cool, however the length of time with the glowworms is approx 5-10 mins and the experience can be slightly underwhelming compared with the hype around it and also the price of the tour. Worth...More

What should I say, nature and the beauty always fascinating to watch. It's quite a short tour in the cave but love it. Imagine you looking at stars in clear sky at night? It's look similar but not all cave cover by the worm. We...More

We couldn't go to Waitomo caves so when we found that there were glowworm caves in Te Anau we signed up for the Real Journeys guided tour right away. Trip was well organized and the caves exceeded our expectations. The final small boat ride in...More

Well organised- I usually avoid 'tour groups' but this was a superb experience. Gliding through the caves in a small boat with the glow worms twinkling like stars was wonderful. Everyone was silent just soaking up the atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Excellent catamaran trip across Te Anau lake to the caves. Well informed guide made the glow worm visit a superb trip. Time taken after the caves to explain the life cycle of the glow worm. All in all an excellent trip and well worth doing.

The boat ride over to the caves was a nice relaxed trip, not rough at all the day we went. Once in the caves, you definely notice the cooler change and the noise of the water gushing through. Our friend's 6 year got a little...More

I was ready to be cynical about this tour but I couldn't have been more wrong. Real Journeys lived up to my experiences of the previous 2 days on the Milford and Doubtful trips. Glow Worms was interesting, information worthy and a quiet adventure. The...More

The drive in a car from Queenstown to Te Anau is about 2 hours barring hold-ups. From Te Anau to Milford Sound is about 2.5 hours at least. For my money, it is better to stay in Te Anau particularly if you want to do... More
