Description:

The Wilkinson's were true pioneers of the Australian winemaking industry....

The Wilkinson's were true pioneers of the Australian winemaking industry.

Despite two earlier ventures in Australia, the Wilkinson family returned after the brothers Frederick and John had studied winemaking in France and Germany. In 1866 the family acquired the present site of the Audrey Wilkinson vineyard.

Living in tents, they cleared the land and planted vines which were sourced from the MacArthur Onslow property.

By the early 1900s, Audrey Wilkinson collected awards around Australia for his Hock, claret and fortified wines. Large quantities were exported to London.

Audrey committed to leading edge technology which, at the end of the 19th century, included open cement fermenters and steam powered crushers and hoppers.

It was here the Audrey Wilkinson legacy was born.

We popped in to do a wine tasting. Phil looked after us. He was very friendly, had a good sense of humor, and obviously knew what he was talking about. This was the first winery we stopped at - unfortunately for us they set the bar too high! Every winery we visited after this did not meet up. And that... More

Blessed with a gift voucher for a private wine tasting followed by a picnic at Audrey Wilkinson Winery, my husband and I drove up from Sydney in late March. The location is sublime - rolling hills, green and perfectly maintained vineyards and surrounding grounds. The charming visitors centre is welcoming and beautifully appointed. We spent time in the small museum... More

This cellar door is great you do have to pay either $5 or $15 depending on the wine but worth it. There is a museum giving you the history of the vineyard and the views are amazing. Definitely worth a visit and if Mike is working ask for him to do your tasting as he is very knowledgable and entertaining

Our family group would have tasted wines here yesterday but were deterred by the charges - $5 per person which would only be refunded if wines are bought to the value of $50 per person. Our group would have to have spent $200 for the charges to be refunded. I consider this to be unfair and we went elsewhere.

Stopped by for a tasting (which was great) really interesting place as it is the oldest winery in the Hunter Valley. The family story is so interesting and is laid out in a museum with great old photos and stores.

We lived in Sydney for five years and paid a lot of visits to AWs. Love the place. This time we brought our two young kids and we loved it. Great staff, beautiful wines and fabulous views. A must visit.

Had a simple tasting session - wines are great and the list is plentiful. The downside was the service - sommelier tried to serve several groups of people at the same time while explaining everything about wines separately - making the presentation and tasting session way too long.

We snuck into the room off to the right of the main tasting room and were treated to an amazing tasting by a really well-informed and likeable bloke. The 360 degree views were to die-for. Hopefully they'll start exporting to UK soon.
