Located along McDonald's Rd, Pokolbin is the Ballabourneen Wine Company Cellar Door. Ballabourneen Wine Compnay is a small producer of an exceptional range of Hunter Valley wines. Award winning winemaker Daniel Binet is a young gun who is creating wines that will tantalise your palate. The Ballabourneen label first emerged when husband and wife Alex and Di Stuart moved to the Hunter Valley, NSW Australia over 23 years ago and planted a small block of Chardonnay, Verdelho and Shiraz. Since then the range has grown to include Sparkling Chardonnay, Semillion, Gamay Noir, Chambourcin, Cabernet Blends, Moscato and a Liqueur Shiraz. Ballabourneen (pronounced Balla-bour-neen) is a Gaelic name that refers to a town road, as close as we can work out. The original Ballabourneen vineyards were on a property close by The Old North Road of convict built fame, which when subdivided, was simply called "The uextensive wine list makes this cellar door a must when visiting the Hunter.

We visited this cellar door as DH wanted to try their gamay but they had sold out. The hostess suggested he try a blend of Grenache, Barbera and Nebiolo which he really liked. The wine was called "Accidental Tourist". She explained the origin of the name. We both liked the sparkling Moscato which was a little less sweet than most.

We visited on a wet, windy afternoon and whiled away a couple of hours tasting the full range of wines (including the Binet range) and came away with a case! They also offer chilli sauce tastings and sell various chilli based chutneys, which we couldn't leave without buying! A great way to spend some time on a gloomy afternoon.

We had a stop here on a hens bus. Our host for our tasting was very hospitable and gave a great little lesson on wines in general and on his wines. The Balllabourneen Shiraz ($50) Probably one of the best shiraz i have tasted- this was also backed up by some of my friends who have just recently opened their... More

A brilliant place to enjoy a very informative Wine tasting with Young, Vibrant, Passionate Winemakers. Daniel and Natalie are wonderful hosts. Well worth a visit. Can't wait to see the new premises when they move.

Our first stop today, the girls serving are charming, cheeky and very good fun. It was all we could do not to settle in and spend the day there. Between the stories and chuckles we tried ( and bought) some lovely wine,

Our group had to go back to this wonderful winery again after an amazing discovery last year. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted by the lovely Kathryn and Helen (Pukara Estate) and were pleased to see that it is still the most friendly winery in the Hunter. The wines and array of oils are lovely. I would be surprised if... More

A visit to Ballabourneen Wines is a must do stop when you visit the Hunter Valley Vineyards. This boutique winery produces a great variety of red and white wines and the cellar door experience is wonderful.

My friend and I were served by a very friendly chap which we later found out was the winemaker. How great is that? Most of the wines were very tasty, especially the Reserve Shiraz, and the Liqueur Shiraz. Oh, and the Buckets Semillon!

I absolutely love Ballabourneen. I head out for a day at the wineries every couple of months, and I go different places every time, but I always go to Ballabourneen. It's also the only place I'm a member of. The wines are delicious, different to the standard types you can get anywhere, and there is absolutely something for everyone. Even... More
