Very friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful to see so much history before our eyes that we could talk to the children about. Their grandmother really enjoyed it and recognised so many items from her own childhood. Places like this which are authentic and real are so important.

As soon as you drive up this long drive way. You feel a sense of peace and love. The home is a wonderful tribute to the life that was. young children will lean how life was with no mobiles or Internet. The house is lovingly kept in its original condition by The wonderful volunteers and the inspirational Gloria. The original... More

This is an amazing homestead full of original family personal posessions. To learn about the old craft of water divining and read Mr Albert Cooks book is amazing. Meeting Gloria and talking to her about her life with the cook family was marvellous and she is such a wonderful lady. It is a place full of wonderful information about the... More

It is great to step back in time, the volunteers do a fantastic job. The gardens are amazing. It would be great it the council could restore some of the old buildings so it is there for many generations to come.

Beautiful old homestead build in 1915, home to Albert and Vida Cook with a view to the Pleystowe mill. The home remains intact with all the old furniture and china just as the Cook's left it when they moved on. Live in housemaid Gloria still lives on the property today and often visits during open hours. Wonderful old trees planted... More

Greenmount Homestead is an interesting place to visit. It was developed by a Mr Albert Cook on the cattle run first taken up by Captain John Mackay, after whom Mackay city is named. It was given to the city by the Cook Family in 1984. The grounds are a great place to spread a picnic blanket under one of the... More

We checked out the Greenmount Homestead a few weeks ago as part of our drive around Australia. It was very interesting to see the grounds and the historical building as well as hearing the stories from the people who actually worked here back in the day. Definite must-see in Mackay!

You could quickly make your way around the homestead yourself within half an hour... or you could spend hours listening to Gloria reminisce about her time as a housekeeper for the Cooks at Greenmount Homestead, where she still lives today. What a great experience

The day we visited this house we were lucky enough to meet Doris who was a maid at the homestead since the mid 1900's. It was really interesting hearing the stories from Doris about the homestead and the family who lived there. The house is really interesting to visit as the family who owned it donated the house and their... More
