Welcome to Australia’s largest regional museum The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) has enjoyed a long and proud tradition having celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2011. Today it has two key Launceston sites: the 19th century railway workshop at Inveresk which houses the natural science and history collections; and its 1891 Royal Park building on Wellington Street which was officially opened to the public as a dedicated Art Gallery last year. At Inveresk you’ll find our extensive permanent exhibitions Tasmanian onnections, Transforming the Island, hands-on science in the Phenomena Factory, Replay>> Sporting Life in Tasmania and the Heritage Trail. In addition there are a range of special exhibitions and our regular facilities including the Museum Shop, auditorium and café. As if Inveresk is not enough, there is even more at Royal Park. Make sure you visit both sites to really experience all that QVMAG has ‘On show’.

A great place to take the family or visitors. Great bookshop and place to buy a souvenir for your visit to Launceston as you explore the sites and wonders of the museum.

A perfect place to hang out for a few hours with the family particularly if the weather is bad. A very interactive and fun part is dedicated to children. The dinosaur bones won't disappoint. There is also an old tram beside the museum that offers...More

This is a good place to take the family as entry is free. You may leave a donation if you wish. The kids love going through the old buildings at the rear particularly the ones with sound effects. Something for all family members here.

A great regional museum ( both sections) for a small city with fantastic exhibits and travelling displays. Everything was very well presented and displayed. Would particularly recommend the Planetarium.

I visited to check the Aboriginal culture show. I expected more artifacts but the range is good. The info is well presented and esy to read without being too much. I liked the comment that an artifact is not a culture. It's a good thing...More

If you're not an art museum goer please visit here, you'll be pleasantly surprised, I know I was was. I then persuaded others in our party to look around no one was disappointed.
