Take a short detour off the State Highway and visit this garden. It can be driven around for those short on time, or limited in mobility. There is a lovely formal garden, hothouses and numerous garden zones featuring, rhodedendrons, natives, ferns and various other plants. There's a lake, Japanese Tea House, barbeque area and a large green space for games.... More

Beautiful gardens with plenty of plants to interest most people. Its one drawback was that there were few plant identification labels.

Our drive made us wish we had more time to spend there. I think that at least half a day would be needed to really appreaciate the park. My wife stopped the car and took quite a few photos.

This is a huge garden with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. It is located on the outskirts of Wanganui, so a car is needed to get there. Don't miss the orchid garden with all its different types of orchids. Also the tropical gardens with their begonias.

A good asset left to Whanganui by Stanley and Blanche Bason. We didnt have a lot of time there but saw the beautiful orchids and extensive plantings of native trees.

The garden is11km outside of Wanganui. It is huge and spread over a large area of ups and downs. The are different styles of gardens and plant houses. Interesting buildings. The gardens and park are immaculate with many interesting plants, but there was no one there public or staff. Spookily empty but we enjoyed it.

Although a little way out of Wanganui these gardens are well worth a visit if you are ta all interested in gardening. We spent a few hours there an could have spent longer except that the rain started coming down rather heavily. The grade is a mixture of flowers, shrubs and trees and is looked after by volunteers.

you need a car to get here and around to see the full expanse. DIY, no need for a formal tour per se. Parking near the entry offered easy, flat walking to the museum, hot houses and cottage gardens. interesting to read the history of the place. pretty flowers in hot houses and cottage garden - even on a drizzly...
