We were so pleased that Cyclone Cook left us alone and so decided that our first place to go was here. What an absolute delightful place with so many different types of birds and lovely surroundings. Would be glorious place to picnic when the ground not quite so wet. If you ever get to Wanganui please do make the effort... More

This is a great place for a walk. There are three different level walkways from lakeside to higher with stunning views over the lake and grounds. Also worth a visit is the Winter Gardens, the aviary and the nearby cafe.

This lake is beside the main road so easy to find, plenty of parking. Much more than the lake, the park and trees are beautiful and there's a gorgeous indoor garden. Café was busy but working well, food good. Beware the greedy poultry!

i have always loved this lake and have now had a long personal association with it stretching back four decades or more. Our recent visit to the City again provided us with a chance to visit it, and it was the true highlight of the trip. The feeding of the waterfowl, the circumnavigation of the trails surrounding the park and... More

At the west side of Whanganui town, this lake and the surrounding park welcoming visitors to the city coming from west direction (through Hawera). Small lake but beautiful with park at the surrounding area, gives choices for visitors as picnic spot, walking path, or exercises track, or just sitting and enjoy the scenery. A lot of ducks (for the duck... More

We were absolutely delighted to stumble across Virginia Lake on our last trip to whanganui. What a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy. Our toddler loved the aviary, seeing the ducks and crossing the little bridges. What an excellent way to spend an afternoon in whanganui.
