Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand.

The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more...

The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups.

Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

Tucked away in the old quarry as the name suggests .This is a beautiful garden ,with many sections easy paths and some steep tracks for the more adventurous. It has a nice collection of bromeliads in a few different climate situations and a large Camelia Grove. Always plenty of work going on so it looks like it is always improving.

I have visited this place many times and watched as it has transformed from a rocky quarry with a few plantings to the fantastic, maturing garden sanctuary it is now.

This is a stunning place and a great place to stop off on your journey north or if you are having a day out in Whangarei. Lots of parking. A bit of a climb sometimes but worth the effort. The Lake is stunning. Enjoyed all the flowers, plants and broms.

We came the day before ANZAC day and the place was pretty much empty, but we had a great time walking around and enjoying the scenery. We saw some signs in town that listed a walking trail to the gardens, but that was a little misleading. It ended up being a pretty long up and downhill trek to an area... More

My mum and I had a lovely morning looking around the gardens. We absolutely loved it and came away with some ideas for our own gardens! Our only complaint would be that there were no rough times on the upper trail signs. We were under a but of time pressure so we only went up as far as the upper... More
