Had a wonderful day New Year's Day 2017. The friendly front desk staff were exceptional and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and showed us things that gave us a deeper experience. Recommended as a place to go in Whangarei.

this museum has historical artifacts, buildings and a kiwi house. the kiwi house has a bioroom imitating the natural area kiwis habitate at night. they have feedings so if lucky, you can see them surreying about. we did. the museum and outbuildings reflect what life was like for settlers and how basic it was. hard to imagine being a settler... Highly recommended to others. I am living in NZ over 15 years. I've been to Auckland Zoo many times, but never see the kiwis. This is the first time I see the real live kiwis just 1 meter in front of me, eating and playing here in KIWI North. Wonderful moment and great place to visit. The staff are all... More

They have a pair of kiwi's living in an artificially created environment where night is day and day is night. Because the kiwi is nocturnal you can see them without having to get up in the middle of the night. They are fed three times a day and so if you go at feeding time you are pretty sure to... More

We went to kiwi North 3 days ago and although we arrive in only 30 minutes before the closing time the staff has been really kind and giveus the main information about kiwi. We were able to see the kiwi wandering with was really fun and the tuatara too. Unfortunately we didn't had the time for the museum. Bus overall... More

We arrived with 3 children and 2 grandparents. It was amazing to see the kiwis in their home. The feeding times are 11am/ 1pm/ 3pm. Allow 2-3 hours visit for the museum as well. The museum includes original houses, school and chapel. If you like antique that's the place for you. The staff are so nice and gave us lots... More

They take injured or abandoned kiwis, keep them for several months or even years, until they can be released. It was our first chance to see kiwis in captivity so we enjoyed it a lot. The museum was also interesting.

The old houses from the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, which have been moved to this place, are nice, but not too interesting. The better part is the heritage museum, which contains, besides native animals, old tools and weapons, an exhibition about the Moa. These extinct running birds, huge ancestors of the kiwi, are quite impressive. There is... More

Kiwis are hard to spot and often in their nests so not always fabulous but the natural (as possible) environment is well done. Staff are helpful. Tuataras are a great attraction.
