Beautiful spot to visit and hang around, about 25-30 kms detour from main Hokitika town. Almost everyone driving to/from the glacier towns of Franz Josef and Fox will have the choice to do this detour. Like all scenic spots in NZ, weather has to be good to enjoy the magic of this place. Whats not understood usually is that one... More

I went here expecting to spend about 15 minutes as i had to drive to Christchurch from here, but ended up staying here for over an hour. A really nice and peaceful place with brilliant views. I could have sat in one spot for few hours looking at the views and not get bored.

It is a beautiful view, but not really worth the 35km driv from Hokitika, especially if yo have seen the Huka Falls on North Island.

Who would have thought such a beauty existed around the quiet small town of Hokitika? It's around 30 minutes drive away from the town, but trust me, it's worth the drive! From Hokitika, there will be plenty of turnings but you will arrive safely if you follow the signboards.. The pathway in is around 650 metres long, with some bridges... More

Wasn't sure i wanted to drive into the Gorge but am so happy we did. The colour of the water was spectacular, and it is fairly remote so there were few people ad quiet. Loved it! If in the area, make is a must see

It's a bit of a drive to get there, but absolutely worth it. A fantastically beautiful place and one of the prettiest spots we visited in New Zealand. Not much walking is required and I think early morning is the best time to visit. Enjoy.

Great spot to take pictures! The colour of the water is just amazing. It's full of sandflies so take some repellent with you

Place that you shouldn't missed if you are at NZ South Island. The turquoise river is really very beautiful.

Although given rather hopeless directions at the Hokitika info centre the tedious 30km drive inland from highway 6 was well rewarded by the turquoise river and setting in general. Great bush walk to the swingbridge BUT carry the (tropical grade is best) spray on as the sandflies are thirsty and persistent.
