The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden was established in 1993 to research, conserve and promote the wider appreciation of Australia’s arid zone flora. Located on the shores of Upper Spencer Gulf with spectacular views to the ancient Flinders Ranges, the Garden showcases a diverse collection of arid zone habitats in a picturesque setting of more than 250 hectares. As well as its stunning selection of arid zone plants, the garden is also home to more than 100 species of birds, and has a diverse population of repltiles, mammals and insects. It features a children's animal discovery trail, AridSmart display gardens where you can see how to use the plants in you home garden, and a visitor centre, which incorporates the Bluebush Cafe and the AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop. The cafe has mouthwatering menu choices and you can't go past the Quandong Smoothies. The AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop is where you can purchase a piece of the garden to take home. Its range of AridSmart plants will not only reduce your water bills but will bring the beauty of Australia's plants into your garden.

The property is expansive and would take many hours to investigate comprehensively. We commenced our walk at the magnificent Red Cliffs overlooking the Mangrove forests. There are shrub lands, Sand Dunes and all types of formal displays aside from just natural open space landscapes. We were there early to beat the heat and the Visitor Centre was an appealing complex... More

This is our second visit and the gardens have grown and expanded, great walks splendid views, plenty of birds to watch too. The café is very popular with locals and visitors alike and meals are tasty, service is prompt and friendly. A well stocked gift shop is well worth browsing and finding a memento or gift to take away. The... More

Well worth taking the time to stroll around this garden. If you are a photographer - mornings may be preferable to get the light on the red cliffs.

I was in Port Augusta for a work I had a 1 hour spare, so I took a lovely walk around the grounds. I really could a spent a lot more time there, I do wish I had more time but the time I did have here was really good walk and a nice bit of exercise you don't realise... More

It took an Englishman to point us to this place. What a little known place. It was excellent to visit, eat, and support a local business. Need to drive through a Port Augusta and head on the Stuart Highway a short distance to enter. Cafe served good cafe style food, and the bush ice cream a treat on a 44... More

I went with teenage kids and they weren't really that keen, which I get. My wife and I loved the gardens. Great setup and easy to get around. Cafe was also very good. I recommend this place for older people

A beautiful oasis,a short trip north of town. The wildflowers, and other flowers, were generally in flower with colour galore across the gardens. Spent quite a while exploring the large gardens, all of which was well pathed, well signed and informative. If looking for something to do for a few hours when in Port Augusta, this is it.
