We stayed in Benalla overnight, on the way to Melbourne. We like to have a walk after driving and were staying only about 500metres from the gardens. There is a memorial to "weary" Dunlop and other war memorials here. The gardens are on the shores of Lake Benalla and date from the 19thC. Hundreds of roses are featured here and... More

Lovely spot. Happy with our find. Shared a morning tea picnic here. Benalla Art Gallery co-located so you could purchase a coffee if you prefer. We didn't head in there as we were passing through the town. Looked like a great place though. We enjoyed a stroll through the gardens. These were beautifully maintained. So restful and relaxing. Very accessible... More

So many lovely paths and features to the Rose Gardens. I enjoyed an early morning walk around the lake and past the Art Gallery. The paths and gardens are all well cared for and a pleasure to walk through. There are lots of hidden little nooks and seats to sit and rest on and enjoy looking at the surrounding gardens.... More

The gardens where here well before the lake arrived. But there are many wonderful old trees and a great collection of roses to one side. If you visit Benalla, visit these gardens.

The gardens are beautiful at the moment with Summer flowers out and the value of shade in the Summer is obvious here. The statue honouring "Weary" Dunlop was moving, too.

I went for a stroll through the gardens recently with friends. It was the first time I have visited these gardens. The plants, trees, shrubs are all lovely, perfumes coming from some plants. The rose gardens are beautiful. A new play ground for the kids is being built and when finished will be very busy with a lot of happy... More

The initial instigators of these pleasant gardens certainly did have a commendable foresight locating the gardens close to the town, next to the ricer for watering and planting trees that these days are on the historical register. These include Bunya Pines, Elms, Plane trees, many Magnolias, Morteton Bay Figs, Lillypillys etc. Two of the attractions on the periphery are the... More
