Discovery Bay near Albany is a truly unique attraction.

It is home to Australia's last operating Whaling Station, a stunning Botanic Garden of Australian plants and a display offering visitors a close up experience with friendly Australian Wildlife.

You can choose to explore either our whaling history, or the gardens and wildlife, or the entire site to make a real day of it! Pack a picnic or BBQ lunch and spend a day discovering lots you didn't know about the Great Southern region.

Situated at the tip of the Flinders Peninsula, the heritage-listed "Whale World" site has undergone dramatic change since 2004. Now maximising its location, Discovery Bay is a showcase of amazing regional bio-diversity, yet still remains true to the original whaling display.

Historic Whaling Station guided tours are included with admission, while informative displays are provided to enjoy the gardens and wildlife at your own pace.

This place is ok to visit with the main highlight the whaling ship, that was the only thing worth seeing at a cost of $30 for an adult. Not much else to say really.

The price of the ticket includes the Whaling station, Animal Park & Botanic Gardens. If you only want to do one activity, you have to pay for all three. Nice little cafe

Since we visited Discovery Bay the site of the worlds last whaling station over thirty years ago it has changed from a small exhibit to a huge and fascinating demonstration of why this industry was so important to the town of Albany. You can clamber all over the last whale boat, enter into the huge drums which once contained whale... More

This is a very good tour with very good scenery. The guide explained the workings of the whaling station well and whilst it was gruesome to think about what happened there it was I guess a necessary business in past times. However I was amazed to learn that it only closed in 1978. I found that if the commentary became... More

The old Whaling Station has been presented as a tasteful testament to "days gone by" when men worked hard in a dangerous job to provide for their families. Even though my wife and I are both glad that whaling has by and large been curtailed in the world today, it cannot take away from the fact that this industry was... More

Congratulations to the management at the whaling station for providing an excellent historical and educational experience about whaling at Albany. We thought the tour was extremely informative, loved the displays and thought the films were excellent. A lot of effort has gone into thoughtfully and creatively oresenting the information. We also enjoyed our visit to the botanic garden and wildlife... More

This old (well 60 years or so) whaling-station is now a kind of museum to this, luckly, not practiced hunting. A quick tour gives you the general story of how whaling was conducted and some more information can be read on written plates all over the place. It doesn't shy off from the bloody fact (you get to see very... More

Little to say but very lucky to have been inside previously as it is now very expensive to enter. We watched from the café which was very reasonable with good food.
