beautiful area, not at all what you think Arizona should look like. More like Colorado with alpine meadows, glacial lakes, spruce and aspen. The hike follows a trout stream with opportunities to get down to the water. Hiked the trail 9/18/2016 (Sunday afternoon). Only saw one fisherman, no other hikers. The map showing the location is wrong, by the way.... More

From SPL the drive itself is worth the time. The trail itself is great. Running water always adds to a hikes allure and but add in mountain meadows and the visual is a must see.

We took our two small dogs on this hike and they loved it as much as we did. It is a nice cool trail that offers lots of shady areas and is cool thanks to the water. This is not a difficult trail and it does connect to another trail (West Fork), but we didn't like that trail very much.... More

All of the the White Mountain trails are nice, but a traveller needs to be aware that not this trail but many of the trails this area belong to the nearby White Mountain Apache Indian community. They regulate use and access to their land. Enjoy all of this, but be aware of your surroundings and respect the existing access and... More

It's an easy hike with great scenic beauty. It can be very muddy in portions by the end of the summer. There is a lot of fire damage on the hills above the trail and especially if you cross the river and continue on the West Fork Trail. A previous reviewr seems to have confused this trail in the Apache... More

We hiked the Thompson Trail today which follows the course of the West Fork of the Black River and passes through some of the most striking country to be seen in the White Mountains near Greer. Wildflowers dominate the landscape and... More

We did not use the trail but stopped to use the handicapped restrooms. They were spotless! Also, easy to manage in and had lots of toilet tissue. Better than some business' restrooms!

Beautiful easy family hike. Mostly flat terrain that follows along the creek. Expect afternoon summer rains.
