The Elephant Conservation Center marks a new era for conservation of the Asian elephant within the Lao PDR and offers a unique experience to visitors wishing to contribute towards the preservation of an endangered species. The first of its kind in Laos, the Center is not another elephant camp but an innovative approach that combines conservation of an endangered species with eco-tourism. Minimum stay is overnight, however we recommend our 2 nights package to experience all the activities and truly enjoy this tranquil part of the world. Volunteer experiences, 6 nights/7 days are also available. Now we have our own minivan departing Luang Prabang daily at 8am and it takes you back the following day or days arriving Luang Prabang 4.30pm. It is only a 2 hour journey from Luang Prabang, Laos' UNESCO World Heritage listed town.

The experience is truly immersive. Stayed 3 days 2 nights and did not want to leave. The program is well thought out with equal focus on guest's experience and the elephant's well being. The mahouts and guides were fantastic, in-tuned with the animal's moods and behaviour and explaining nuances that would otherwise go unnoticed. Bear in mind this is a... More

Our stay at the Elephant Conservation Center was remarkable! We spent a long time searching around Luang Prabang for the "Elephant" experience that was the most eco-friendly, caring and respectful of the animals. As soon as we set foot in their office (say hi to Celine), we knew that ECC was the one : rather than taking the elephants away... More

Before I arrived, I wondered whether this place could really live up to the incredible reviews. Straight away I realised it could. From the well organised transfer from LPB, to the incredible views arriving by boat, to the wonderful guides and staff, and of course the experience with the elephants - it's worth every $$ you pay. Don't miss this... More

I loved my experience at ECC. As others have mentioned, this centre is truly focussed on the welfare of its elephants and has a keen interest in promoting elephant welfare to tourists and locals alike. It provides a surreal, informative and beautiful experience with the elephants. Bring decent walking shoes (not just flip flops), a water bottle for refilling, and... More

This is a place that actually cares about elephants, the opposite of what all the agencies try to sell in Luang Prabang. Stayed there 2 days/1 night. The centre is amazing, you see the elephants in many different environments (bath, socializing, in the "hospital"...), people that work there are professionals and know what they're talking about, bungalows/huts are in perfect... Did a 2 day, 1 night stay here with the ECC. They have to be the gold standard for ethics in the Elephant Tourism business. They seriously care about these animals and have thought carefully about the issues ahead. Great explanations on animal health, captive vs wild elephants, socialisation, and eating. No you won't ride one or bathe with them... More

I just came home from my week at the ECC and to be quite honest, I am home-sick to return. In hopes I do not sound too melodramatic, I have an ache in my heart. My experience as a volunteer has impacted me in ways I didn't imagine. Being able to help Bua Bahn's mahout carry food each morning and... More

An ethical place where elephants are treated with the love, care and respect they deserve. I loved my visit to the ECC. I stayed for 2 days in the center and the overall experience was truly magical. The cost might seem a bit high but belive me it's worth every cent, additionally you contribute to a great cause. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing time here. This is the only real sanctuary for elephants in Laos - tourists looking for rides and feeding and bathing (i.e. People that don't really care about the welfare of elephants) shouldn't come here. The whole experience was fantastic! The location was beautiful and our guide was so helpful with fantastic English. Simply put we... More

The Elephant conservation Centre offers a unique experience and immersion into the status of Elephants in Laos. They have a clear mission of increasing the number of Elephant in Laos. This is not a typical tourist Elephant camp. They offer a transparent view of what the are doing and their goals. It is not a place to ride elephants. It... More
