I was amazed of some Bronze age bronze articles, including safery pins very similar to modern ones. Also painted pottery and other small statues etc in very good condition. These are articles of a very progressive civilization 4000-5000 years ago. All the items were excavated in this island.

A great place to really steep yourself in the ancient history of Skyros. Loads of interesting pieces from Palamari. Beautiful jewellery in gold, delicate and intricate.

Great little museum to visit on the island. Its small but its full of interesting information and most of it is also translated into English. The staff are really friendly and even gave me a lemon that had fallen off the tree.

I visited this museum in 1997,while I was on the Island studying with the English playwright Nell Dunn, who lives in London. She was a magnificent writing teacher who wrote Poor Cow, Up the Junction and Cancer Tales, among others. It was a glorious time In my life because I was privileged to study with her. She took
Me all over the island of Skyros, which is magnificent and different from most of the Greek Islands.
It's quiet, less commercial And less international.
While living on Skyros I lived in a 19th century structure That was completely charming , simple and decorated
With early 20th century Greek textiles.
There was no bathroom. I used an outhouse which I walked to that was surprisingly , clean And fresh. Because the Island is so beautiful and old fashioned, it
Didn't bother me to walk outside with a
Flash light at night to use the facilities.
It was a marvelous experience and the weather can't be beat.

Well organized with lots of historic material. Quite easy to experience on your own - without a guide - due to good written information following the different subjects.

I arrived after closing time and the Director not only let me in (unusual in Greece) but he gave me a tour himself on the two rooms. I was the only tourist there. Some items up to 5000 years old impressed me and made me wonder about the persons who made these items and their daily lives, which the Director was only too happy to speculate with me. Another must see.

As I was there out of season, I was able to ask questions about different exhibits. It has a lovely outside area.
