The location was near the border of Indonesia and PNG, around 1,5 hours from Merauke. It was very unique that many giant anthill stand like a menhir in the park.

This place is one of a must visit tourist attraction in Merauke.
Sota is known as one of many border point between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
It is located about 90 km from Merauke city.
There are also many ant heap/termite nest (locally known as Musamus) in the park which can grow up to 5 metres tall. A very unique view that can't be seen anywhere else.

There are many Musamus (ant's nest) along the way to Sota Park. What makes this place interesting is this place is on the border of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. So literally you can be in two countries at the same time as there are no physical border between the two countries. The rest of the place is pretty much the same with the rest of the other parks.

There is a garden surrounded by ant houses. there are 2 new monuments, zero point merauke sabang and i love sota (bpjs kesehatan). this place can be one of the alternative tourism. feel the spirit of nationalism in the border area, and the ant house that became the attraction of merauke. Recommended for family vacation.

Musamus is the ants nest that can grow up to 5 meters tall. The ant colony build this nest bit by bit using the mud. You can take pictures near the nest, just don't disturb them or you might get sting. In Sota park, you can find many of this Musamus, and most of them are in the Papua New Guinea area. Just make sure that the army who guide the border knows that you are crossing the border.
Sota park itself is the place where Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) border is located. You can put each of your feet on two countries at the same time. Indonesia and PNG, because the border is only the longitude line of 141 degree 1' and 10" East. Don't forget yo bring your hat along, since this is the open space and when the sun high and no cloud around, the sun will not show its mercy.
You must visit the house of the police officer, Mr. Ma'ruf Suroto near the entrance to get your own certificate of attendance telling you that you have already visited the border of Indonesia-PNG. The certificate is free. Mr. Ma'ruf Suroto would keep the money you pay for charity.
