We had a lovely time just wandering about here. The castle is not huge but quite interesting and has an archaeological exhibition within it. The main event is the grain stores outside, quite an unusual feature. It's a beautiful location and a photographer's paradise, birds...More

This town located just by the border between Spain and Portugal boasts an interesting attraction: its castle. This place, full of history, doesn´t seem to be very restored so it gives you a nice sensation of authenticity. On the other hand, this implies that some...More

Located over the Lima River and close to the Spanish border, Lindoso Castle was strategically placed to defend Portugal and is now considered one of the country’s most important military monuments. There are two museums within the inner walls of the castle. One focuses on...More

Couldn't visit the castle as our 6 year old was too young to be allowed inside. Probably because of the ramparts and lack of supervision (and railings!). No matter - you can just walk down to the stone grain sheds, which are behind the castle....More

We stopped at Lindoso to see the granaries but also walked up to the castle and around the walls. There's a good view of the granaries from the wall.

It’s an interesting castle if only because it epitomises the Portuguese attitude towards health and safety. Great fun.

Portugal does a fine line in ruined castles and restored palaces. The small castle at Lindoso is no exception, but it's in better shape than many and is well maintained. There's also an interesting exhibit about the history of human settlement in the area (dating...More

A very twisting road takes you up to the castle. On the way, look out for birds of prey. The footpaths are uneven and quite steep in places. Wear study shoes/trainers. It was very hot on our visit so we wore sun block, head covering...More

The Medieval castle of Lindoso belongs to the “Viana do Castelo Region”, and is very close to the Spanish border, and from there the purpose of the castle was to vigilante. It should be dating from the year 1258 and enlarged into the year 1278.All...More

Compared with some of the other castles in Portugal, this was a smaller one, but still worth the visit. Outside you can also view the old graneries and not so far away, you can also visit a dam (barragem do Lindoso).
