Great location

It is not the obelisk but the location that is great. It is worth the walk. Walk up through King Edward Park, the only thing missing is an ice cream shop.

Wonderful views of the city and surrounding areas. Great walk to get here (as some steep terrain ) but well worth it and always remember that it is all downhill on way back !

This attraction seems to be a well kept secret and many Newcastle people I know either don't know it is there, or have never been! The obelisk is a short stair climb from the historic Hill, Christ Church Cathedral, King Edward park and the new Anzac Walk. On a fine day it has amazing views over Newcastle city and the... More

If you're in the area, the Obelisk is nice to visit for the views over Newcastle and the history of water sources in Newcastle through the many plaques on the ground. If you're not nearby, give it miss as you can get the same views from Fort Scratchley.

Great views of Newcastle city, the entrance to Newcastle Port, Nobbys, the ocean, and up and down the coast. You can park for free next to it. There is a very steep set of stairs to climb to get... If you have seen one obelisk, you have seen them all, but it is the location that makes The Obelisk in Newcastle special. Being right on top of the hill (I’m not kidding, the suburb is called “The Hill”!), the Obelisk sits in a nice little park, with magnificent views over Newcastle and out to sea. It is a bit... More
