This is a very unique castle, formally a hunting lodge. The collection of rare and antique weaponry was fascinating and truly amazing. The walk through the forest and grounds getting to the castle was also very enjoyable.
What could have been an interesting visit (we booked a private tour in English) was totally ruined by our guide called Tony who was Czech but had moved to Toronto (Canada) and was now living between the two countries (not sure - but irrelevant).
This is worth the visit! It's a 15-20 minute walk from the station (pretty direct) and you can choose different parts of the house to explore. They have tours in Czech and English. We went as a group and spent a couple of hours here,...More
Our tour started unremarkable but what an amazing surprise was a tour guide Adam inside the Castle. Adam’s knowledge about the Catle history and its owner made it an unforgivable experience . The common facts that we all learned in school became fascinating. IF you...More

Our guide, Deborah started the tour very rushed and hurried us through the hallways and rooms but once we were in the bedrooms she slowed down and warmed up to the group. She was very attentive and answered all our questions considering not many of...More

We went to see the castle and hunting trophies and ended up with all that plus a glimpse into the home life of a famous historical figure. The hunting hobby of Franz Ferdinand was interesting, though seemingly excessive, and was impressive in its sheer volume....More
My wife and I did tours 3 & 4 (English). Guide was great; very interesting tour; thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy walk from Benešov u Prahy train station (take the shortcut though the woods). Could not make reservation on-line. E-mailed reservations (firstname.lastname@example.org), they were great and...More
Fairytale castle surrounded by beautiful woodland and overlooking a large lake. We took a train from Prague and walked to the castle from Benesov u Prahy station. Konopiste was the home of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie until their assassination in Sarajevo...More

No problem with parking, well, I do not know in high season. The train which can take you up there we did not see until we were back after visiting. A stop slightly up the hill was not very informative unless you speak Czech. The walk is up hill to the castle which is hard. In the end well worth it as very interesting castle. but they are not well prepared for non speaking Czech.
