Even if you're not religious aspects of this are certainly fascinating, first of all being the science behind these naturally mummifying bodies in the 17th Century, second the hard work and knowledge by people of today to make the it open to the public while maintaining the dignity of the dead that the original founders intended. A small fee applies... More

Although Klatovy town is a beautiful city, the catacombs are the main reason to come. The exhibition is excellent, not only showing the old monks mummies, but offers many interesting information about jesuits order, education, science and baroque live style. Fits to kids as well.

This attraction has been renovated with help from the European Union to a very high standard. The local language is very difficult but there are English information leaflets available. When you see how people lived and died hundreds of years ago in a setting that even young children would find ok.

If you are a fan of mummies, you have struck gold here. Several rooms offer many fascinating mummy displays. We send about an hour exploring the rooms and reading about the history. While we were there, a group of school children excitedly explored the location along side of us. With people looking around from ages 7 to 80, I expected... More

My expectations were for a dank, damp hole in the ground. The reality is completely opposite. The slightly cool and dry air is naturally ventilated, which is what allowed natural mummification of the bodies interred there. To give us tourists a good visit, the lighting is about the same as a normal room, while allowing some shadows to not take... More

If you're traveling in the area or here for some event, make a trip to the Catacombs. It is an interesting part of history of the city and it's not every day you get to see real mummified people.

Similar to Pilsen underground visit but with possibility to see the mummies. Whole place dates back to 1636.

Wear a sweater as it is quite chilly, but the newly reconstructed catacombs was well worth the money and you got a great sense history, mixed with culture. There are several mummified bodies on display, so make sure you have the stomach for it too. The kids loved it, but our daughter got a little squeamish towards the end.
