Just round the corner from St Vitus within the Prague Castle walls, this small but pretty Baroque church houses the remains of Saint Ludmila of Bohemia (the grandmother of Saint Wenceslaus). Ticket entry only, but it's part of your group ticket. There's not a huge amount to see, but it has a beautiful apse, you can look through the door... More

The inside of the St. George's Basilica is lovely and very ornate. We entered using the Prague Pass which gave us combined entry. It is worth a visit and we were in there about 20 minutes and in that time was enough to see it. We were lucky that it wasn't that busy. There is one way in and another... More

After all, it might not be that small, but it's simply overshadowed by the huge st vitus. It's just on your way so you can't miss it, and it's on the circuit B combination ticket, so there is absolutely no reason not going in. I've heard some great concerts are being held there. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to... More

As you exit out the side and continue from St. Vitus, sits the smaller and easy to miss St. George's Basilica. It is worth stepping in and enjoying this 12th century church. It appears that most tourists walk by, so it is less crowded, despite its smaller size. It is simply decorated and peaceul

Small red brick romanesque church now used as both a tourist attraction and also a concern venue - the modern seating of which rather spoils the interior in my opinion

Accustomed to the ornate OTT details of other churches, castles and surrounds, the interior of St Georges Basilica was surprising and evoked a calm austere tone and less of the high drama of heaven and hell. A place to soothe and seek comfort. Beautiful light.

I attended a fantastic classical concert played by a string ensemble and solo violinist in St. George's Basilica during the Christmas season. They played Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Canon in D, and Mozart. It was the best rendition of Vivaldi's Four Seasons I have ever heard. The music flowed around the inside of the Basilica and brought me to tears enjoying... More

Even older than St Vitus Cathedral is St George’s Basilica within Prague Castle. Its striking red baroque facade liven up the square against the imposing St Vitus. The buildings contain the main basilica as well as a convent and a monastery. You won’t be seeing any nuns today at St George’s, instead is part of the National Gallery showcasing Bohemian art.... It's such a simple place, compared to the other churches or cathedrals in the city. It even reminded me of one of those countryside little churches. Inside the castle complex too.

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighbourhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
