Beautiful Theater, see an Opera

Beautiful Theater, take the time and see an Opera if possible. We saw Madame Butterfly and it was truly outstanding. The theater is stunning.

The National Theater is situated on the right bank of the river Vltava. It is a majestic, historical building. The building has a big roof with statues and gold decorations. It was built using money collected by the Czech people. The theater was burnt and then rebuilt in 1883.You can watch operas, plays and ballet performances at the National Theater.... More

This piece was delectable! I did not know what to expect and flew all the way to Prague from the US to see his work based on a description from my friend that it looked like "Alvin Ailey meets the Walking Dead". It was not quite so...but it was well worth the surprise! We loved Nova Scena (which did look... More

Went to see the opera La Boheme at the National theatre and sat in a side parterre box near the stage. The house and the opera were superb. The staff was not as good- they would not move others out of our seats (unlike staff at the the Met in New York and La Fenice in Venice), resulting in getting... More

We attended a production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Macbeth" here two nights ago. The room and space is a very nice venue for experiencing an opera. As a frequent theatre-goer, I have no quibbles about anything here at the venue as far as the theatre-going experience is concerned. As a musician, I can say, however, that I have extreme reservations about... More

We came to see Verdi's Macbeth, sung in Italian by a Czech cast. The theater is a magnificent example of a European theater/opera house, gilded and decorated heavily. It has been recently renovated extensively. The acoustics is good and the seats are comfortable. The food at the buffet was disappointing, but since that was not the main reason we came... More

Went to see the opera 'La Bohème' at this wonderful little theater and was very pleased with the venue as well as the quality of the performance. Definitely worth a visit!

I booked A Mid Summer night's dream at the theatre. Of course the performance was in Czech, but with subtitles. For me that wasn't a problem, but my partner had some issues with the Shakespeare English for 2 hours and in the end focused on the performance. It was great and we loved the performers and could follow the improvised... More

Most impressed with this wonderful little theatre – the theatre shines with gold features on the galleries and red velvet upholstery. We are opera buffs. The fabulous production of “Cunning Little Vixen” in this beautiful theatre was wonderfully presented and excellent singing. The good facilities and a central location on the river tramline made this the best ever evening of... More

We managed to get boxed seats. The theater is indeed was beautiful with magnificent carvings and architecture, intricate renaissance painted ceilings which added to the grandeur of the ambience. Maintenance is fair - seats needed refurbishing, theater was over all clean. There are coat hangers in the corner of the box seats so there's no need to leave your coats... More

Staying in Nove Mesto (New Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.
