The site of the building originally housed the neo-Gothic monastery complex of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy (founded in 1862), which was designed by Charles Zaremba and was built between 1889–1891. In 1966, the remains of Sister Faustina were moved to the church. In 1968 Cardinal Karol Wojtyła (later Pope John Paul II) designated the church as a shrine, thanks to the remains of Sister Faustina.

The place is fantastic. Tram # 8 from hotel INX design (7 stations). The chapel opens at 12 noon where there is the original photo of Jesus. It's very exiting to see the original photo. The statue of Jean Paul II is superbe . you have to visit this place.

We spent a week in Krakow with the hope of visiting the Sanctuary. It was a day visit and we arrived with the bus about 1km away from the Divine Mercy Basillica. We visited the Chapel to arrive to a Divine Mercy nun taking her final proffession. It was a unique experience and very touching and beautiful. Although the Mass was in Polish it felt quite at home to be a part of this service. We then stayed for another Mass in the main Basillica in English. The feeling of the place was quiet and rewarding. There is a restuarant where one can buy food inexpensively. Also, other facilities. The a few shops to purchase your relics and religious items too.A hotel is also available but was a bit too expensive for our budget. The Divine Mercy Centre is a little out of town but, easy to reach.

I came to Krakow primarily to visit with Saint Faustina. It was a beautiful experience. Sitting in the old St Joseph Chapel with her mortal remains in a casket below the Miraculous Image of Merciful Jesus was the highlight of my trip.

My friend on our trip is devoted to the Diving Mercy and so wished to visit this Church/Bascillica. We arrived just in time for the 10.30 mass, confession and visited the remains of Saint Faustina. We all benefited from our friends devotation. We took a taxi from Krakow to the Sanctuary.

A very peaceful place where you can spend time in prayer and feel the great depth of love and mercy. The whole place makes one feel so at peace and so ready to go meet God. We were in time for the Divine Mercy chaplet at 3pm followed by Holy Mass, in the Basilica... such a holy ground to be in. Will definitely want to come back to this beautiful sanctuary again.

The Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy is set on a height and so you get beautiful views outside. The church itself is very big and modern. Its a great place to pray, meditate and be at peace with God. We attended the local mass which was a great experience. Thereafter we visited St. Faustina's resting place and convent. She is the saint that gave us the beautiful and miraculous 'Divine Mercy' prayer which when recited at 3.00 pm provides divine help for those seeking peace and help. It has truly worked miracles in many peoples lives and especially in our family. This visit was a great experience and holds special value for Catholics and believers. But it can help others too all you need to do is give God a chance.

My wife and I loved our visit to The Sanctuary of Divine Mercy. Beautiful buildings with incredible interiors. The tribute to Saint Faustista was beautiful.

The new sanctuary, dedicated to St. John Paul II resembles a ship, with the pope at the helm. It is very modern, open and spacious inside. The old shrine, on the other hand, where the image of the Divine Mercy is enshrined is cozy and small. In this building is a replica of the cell of St. Faustina, as well as her bones in a cask beneath the image. Its a place of prayer.
