Take a peak at the wildly intricate bronze doors of this church which portray Slovenia’s religious history. Then, take a free step inside and marvel at the arched ceilings lined with frescos that pop next to the surrounding white crown molding–all centering around a lavish gold chandelier.

Lots of work in the walls of this cathedral. Fine murals in each space available. I liked it even if in general I am not a fan of churches and only used them to sit for some minutes.

The history behind the doors was really interesting and surrounds a pope's stop there. The church really is breathtaking inside. The organs are gorgeous.

The current cathedral dates from the 18th century. It is the main cathedral in the city. It has Baroque decorations and is quite beautiful inside.

We visited the Cathedral of St Nicholas twice on 8 Nov 2016. Just in time to enter the church through the holy door which was a unique heavy bronze door as the designation of Holy Door by Pope Francis will end on 20 Nov 2016. Easy to find the Cathedral, from Prešeren Square, cross the Triple Bridge, walk towards Robba's... More

Lovely church and the doors were very interesting and beautiful. The stations of the Cross were also very beautiful...quite modern but truely beautiful. Would love to know more about them.

Unbelievable detail in this - don't just pass - look inside, it has the wow factor! You have to respect their catholic religion - it is apparent in lots of places - this place is the main jewel tho - if you like churches and cathedrals you will love this one.

Baroque cathedral, a bit on the small side, which I prefer when it comes to Baroque. The side door has been designated a holy door by Pope Francis, this designation lasts until Nov. 20, 2016. The door itself has very unique bronze casting showing a brief papal history.

This Cathedral looks nothing special from the outside but do make sure that you open that unassuming door and go inside!
