Ljubljana wasn’t a highlight in my trip of Albania, Croatia and Slovenia. It’s fine and the castle is worth a visit. In fairness it did rain the entire time I was there which won’t have helped but there isn’t actually very much to see in Ljubljana. Lake Bled and Bohinj were lovely though so go there!

Worth going to if you want fresh fruit and flowers. There were a few stalls selling souvenirs too. More of a market for locals than for tourists.

We visited on a Monday morning and it was bustling! We bought everything we needed for a green salad and found the prices to be pretty good. The vendors were all friendly and eager to help. I bought a blouse and they had little sheds where you could try the clothing on.

People are correct that on an average day the central market is a bit of a let down. But we arrived in town on a Friday and walked to the market area on the Saturday, and we were amazed by the colours and types of fresh veggies and fruits, a big flower area and plants, not to mention the baked goods, meats and cheeses in a nearby enclosed market, or the fish market under the colonnade. This is well worth the visit, but you do have to search out the sections a bit or ask people, we found the Ljubljana's very approachable. The souvenir stands near the triple bridge end of the colonnade are also worth a visit if you are in the market for a souvenir; they are cheaper than stores. We bought a beautiful large green glass dragon there for 18 Euros. The cobbler and dragon bridges are also nearby with their sculptures, and there are cafes in the colonnade that are great for people watching, and snacking on ice cream or cake (and some of the Ljubljana cakes are well worth trying). Also check out the public scales in the market where locals can check their purchases to make sure the have not been scammed, and there are machines where you can buy milk in your water bottle or a bottle bought next door. well worth the visit and its free.

It seems like there's always something set up at the Central Market, but depending on when you go, that "something" could be interesting or it could be lackluster. I get that due to Covid, things are different than usual, but the Christmas market setup was really lackluster (there were a few stands selling hats and mittens, one or two selling hot drinks, and a few others).

In the summer, though, there was a food festival going on (or at least just a lot of food stalls set up), and that was nice--and quite crowded/busy.

So, I guess it depends on when you go, and what the Covid situation is like...

Nice location, in any case, right by the river and at the base of the castle.

On a late august monday morning the central market is really not worth a visit - unless you want fresh fruit or cheap clothing. Nothing else to see or buy.

This nice market is located in the city center, not far from other attractions in the city, all within walking distance.
There are fruits, vegetables, food and beer stalls, clothing and more in the market.
The atmosphere here is great and everything is fresh.
Those who love markets will enjoy here very much
