We are avid, if not crazy, tower climbers. We stayed both visits at Max's which is nearly off to the side of this church. We were instructed to go over and climb the bell tower for the best view, by Franc the proprietor of Max's. 100 big WOW's in all directions. Our first visit the church bell rang every hour... More

Two main stone paved paths up the hill join just below the church. Stopping to pray, take in the view or just catch your breath during the climb is perfectly acceptable and for some of our 14 tourists it was necessary. The church with its 17th century renaissance front façade and its free-standing bell tower replica of St. Mark's Campanile... More

The location in hill make you can see beautiful scenery, the Piran and the sea. It easy to reach, you can enter the tower . The tower structure remind me of the tower in san marco polo in venice

In case that you miss when its open during the mass, definetly dont miss the opportunity to look at all frescoes inside and especially to the unique representation of Christ on cross dating back from middle ages. We have explored it thanks to visiting Parish museum, as when you pay the entrance fee for the museum you can explore the... More

In May, 2016, a friend and I had visited Piran and while attending a conference in the neighbouring town of Portoroz. Among the attractions that we were able to catch a glympse of, was the Church of St. George. Getting there, we caught a Gratis Bus (a.k.a. Free Bus - where you don't have to pay) at the border between... More

St. George is one of the churches with best positions in Slovenia – best church at Slovenian coast. There are three buildings at the top of the hill: church, baptistery and huge tower. Tower is older than St. Mark’s tower in Venice (rebuilt after 1902 collapse). Baptistery is small round building with very impressive Crucifix. Church is interesting hall church... More

This beautiful church holds a commanding view over the town of Piran and Adriatic waters. It's shadow falls upon city square and dories in the harbor. On top of the spire, the angel guards all below. Inside, the statue of St. George is cherubic: he's a young round faced knight and his horse rears over the vanquished dragon. Although many... More

Nice walk up to it. Nice little town too. Church looks down on the town. It's worth the trek up to it for the city views.

The whole town though quite small is an adventure in walking. Basically a quite place (when I was there) might be quite busy at time. I'm not only reviewing the church which seems to be the main highlight, but the city and surrounding area, ay be one of the best places to travel in Slovenia; the Istrian shoreline in Slovenia

We walked up through the narrow winding streets in Piran to this church on the hill. From the outside it was not ornate at all, but with a look inside, its beauty is revealed. An ideal spot for photographing Piran and its rooftops and surrounding sea. The bells ring out regulary. Be sure to be prepared for that. This church... More
