Other than the view, when I got here I realised painting the walls would have been more interesting.. On the trip I was pestered by beggars and hop on hop off ticket touts. The fisherman bastion was built recently for tourism. That aside walking down to the Danube was lovely and at night all the lights of this area made... More

Budapest has a long-suffering history, due to its strategic location in eastern europe, and this is one of the places to get acquainted with such fascinating history. The Royal Palace has been re-builded 3 times and it is so stunning.

A great place to walk around and see how the "new" building was put over the old foundations. If you are into castles you will love this one.

We took the funicular up to see the castle and then kept walking to the right (towards the Fisherman's Bastion) and all this part of the city is wonderfully beautiful. There were not many tourists at that time either, so we didn't have to walk in crowds either. Just walk the streets and take in the beautiful atmosphere and architecture.... More

Wonderful place to visit especially on a sunny day. I'd suggest talking the walk up rather than the ride. It's not too difficult and offers so nice views at various spots.

You can enjoy the view better at night from the other side, it is fantastic, but when you climb the mountain it was less interesting for me.

We first saw the castle hill at night and the lighting was perfect to display the majesty of the hill. The next day we took the cable car to the top (although you can walk up as well) and the castle and the buildings in it as well as St. Matthias church were well worth the trip, as well as... More

I visited " castle hill" as part of a half day tour..amazing views of the city, interesting history. If I had more time I would have gone back to visit. This is an attraction you can spend several hours to " fully take it in".

A great place to go to get a good view of the city. I much preferred this place to Fishermans Bastion in terms of the view.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
