There is a lot of history to read about on entry. Either access via the funicular or steps where there is a lift for over 60's.It is lit up beautifully at night and by day interesting to walk around and access the old town, also worth a visit as from there you can access fisherman's wharf.

It is a really beautiful museum with his normal divisions throughout all his history. It isn't a new one with all the computers' things, on the contrary it is very traditional. Anyway it is so full of evidences of the past times that you have to struggle to follow all its leads. The building where it is is also a... More

The are a couple of stalls beside the coffee shop and unlike most other stalls up would find in places like this, these we found cheep... More

Great arhitecture, very nice looking at night time, and very nice views over the Budapest. You should really visit it, and it's very close to Fisherman Bastion and Mathias Church.

We stayed in the Castle District just metres from Matthias Church. The church bells sound beautiful and reminds one of the romantic middle ages. The area has lots of places to explore, from Buda Castle to museums, beautiful scenery, beautiful architecture to many restaurants. Our accommodation at Castle Apartment located on the corner of Uri Utca and Szentharomsag Utca above... More

The cable car was being serviced this day (every other Monday morning) so we took a bus to the top. Apart from the views there were some very interesting houses, shops, restaurants and museums etc. It would be easy to spend half a day here or more. Houdini was born here - who knew? Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned here.... More

We walked here from the other side of the river and it's easily accessible if you're up for walking up the steep hill to the top instead of waiting in the crowds for the cable car. The walk to the top probably took about 15/20 mins. Once we got to the top the views from the castle were incredible and... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
