This was a very nice spot. The church itself was lovely and the surrounding area was absolutely charming. I really enjoyed this place.

Stunning little church at the top with the castle and fishermans Bastian, worth the visit. There is a lot of history in this little church.

We hiked up to Matthias Church and were well surprised. The tiles on it are extraordinary and it is very beautiful. It was closed when we were there so we weren't able to go in but the outside was still amazing. It is located near many other attractions and has a beautiful skyline.

The architecture of Matthias Church is striking but the interior is even more appealing due to its many frescos and interesting decoration. It is worth the visit and the time invested to see this church.

The price to visit the church is very reasonable and there is a small exhibition inside. However, it is the paintings and the stained glass within that is by far the icing on the cake. 10/10 would recommend and the number 1 thing to do here.

The Matthias Church sits on Castle hill and is gorgeous in itself on the outside. I went to a concert one evening and was entranced by the interior paintwork. I've heard it was restored post-war in the original style; it's just stunning. Can take a lovely walk from there to the Castle or Fisherman's bastion.

We didn't go into the church but the architecture outside was incredible. Had a warming mulled wine!

A stunning location - the entire area appears to be a small rustic city and the building is beautiful both during the day and by night. Intrerior is beautiful and also contains an area that rather resembles a museum. The view from above is a long 200 stairs walk that I do not recommend for people that cannot withstand too... More

It was very beautiful church. We visit when the sun was setting and it was just great moment when there was still little daylight but church was lighted.

We didn't go inside the church but it is still beautiful from the outside. The Hilton hotel of which we stayed at is a stones throw away which gave us beautiful views throughout. The church is beautiful in day and night.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
