It was nearly torn down when the Elisabeth Bridge was built. Thank goodness it wasn't as it is a pretty church with lots of history inside including a Turkish Prayer Niche when the church was used as a mosque during the 14th century. Right next to the bridge and the Danube River.

I found this church interesting because this is on the site of the old Roman settlement and some of the stones below the church are visible. If you are in the area I recommend a visit and the adjacent Roman ruins are worth viewing. Check out the organ too. A donation is appreciated.

When I went to the church, I was surprised that you would have to pay to enter. I suppose I shouldn't have been since so many people use churches as museums rather than quiet places of prayer. If you tell the person at her post that you are there to pray, she will waive the fee. Of course, you can... More

Our cruise boat was just near to this Church. So each time when we went ashore, we would see this Church. We took a few photos on the Church both in day time and at night. The Church was small but beautiful.

One of the more impressive facades close to the river and set apart from the more dominant terraces that surround it, its bare classical style contrasts with much of its more flamboyant surroundings.

Near to our hotel so we took a short walk - glad we didn't travel far as builders are in residence doing what seems to be major work so we couldn't go in.

This is one beautiful church that look's really cool when viewed at night when illuminated. The two towers look really impressive and the little gardens and statues look cute and well maintained. Viewed of a day the light painted facade looks awesome and you can appreciate the gothic design of this stunning church. Located near Elizabeth Bridge the Inner City... More

I visited this church in October 2015. Sadly it was closed for renovation but I walked around and enjoyed seeing the little garden on the north side, with beds of rose-trees and aromatic hedges (box?) There are also two statues of medieval female saints. The church is closed to the Elizabeth Bridge and the main road which passes within a... More

We were not able to get inside but we did enjoy the picturesque setting. There is a park in front with great views of the Danube and Buda. We used the twin spires as landmarks as our hotel was very close.

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
