One of the few grand opera houses left. The interior itself is worth visiting, but with the fantastic accoustics, visiting a real opera is the best offer you van get. If you bought balcony tickets, make sure you are on front row (or your experience will suffer greatly).

Be careful when booking to hear & marvel at a performance by this wonderful Budapest State Opera Company. We thought we were booking to see Puccini's Madam Butterfly here in this stunning state opera house, but, no, the performance was in the ghastly 1960's concrete Erkel Theatre. The box office don't tell you this when you book your tickets, &... More

The Opera has so much class and history, but it is at the same time also very old with old chairs and not much space. It's not easy to get drinks in the breaks. A must see when in Budapest

My daughter and I saw Die Fledermaus here in January- I was delighted at not only the beauty of the architecture but also the quality of the performance. Tickets were quite reasonably priced. We purchased our tickets online a few weeks ahead of our trip and I was glad I did, as the performance we saw seemed to be sold... More

My girlfriend bought us tickets to see an opera whilst in Budapest for my birthday. The outside looks impressive but it's nothing compared to how beautiful if looks inside. We have a booth which has eight chairs in it. Unfortunately the booths are level rather than sloping so the view of the stage is partially obscured if you are in... More

Loved our visit here. Well worth taking the tour and having the mini concert ( it really is mini though - 5 Mins). Wished we had booked to see an Opera / event. Stunning venue.

We took the short tour of this labyrinthine building. Worth an hour's visit on an afternoon in Budapest.

We wandered to the Opera house initially to view the outside but noticed there were guided tours in the afternoon so decided to return later to marvel the architecture and history of the building. Tours were guided and in a number of different languages and you can learn a bit about the design and history of the opera. Tickets for... More

We took a tour of the opera house, completed in 1884, and enjoyed hearing of its history and stepping inside the Royal Box. The Grand chandelier in the auditorium is stunning and the dome above it glistens with gold. It is a wonderful piece of art filled with pieces of art.
