I've been wanting to see a performance at this theater for a long time, and thoroughly enjoyed myself at a recent (November 2016) production of the beloved operetta "Countess Maritza." The show itself was wonderful, with beautiful singing, sets and costumes, and theater is a real jewel. And the show even had English supertitles. Red velvet and gold decoration everywhere.... More

The Budapest Operetta Theater is a beautiful place to spend a winter evening and enjoy something specifically Hungarian.

We went to see Gone with the Wind the musical which whilst the dialogue and songs were in Hungarian there was a running synopsis in English shown at the top of the stage. The music was provided by a full orchestra whilst the cast (over 50 members) were excellent with beautiful costumes with a live horse and pony! The performance... More

We took the guided tour in English, our guide was really good and told us interesting things about the building. The building itself is impressive. At the end, we had a short and intimate opera concert that we paid a few euros at the beginning. In case you'd want to take pictures, you have to pay extra for it.

We just visited the foyer and cloak room but already you can sense the history of the place with the beautiful tiled floor, wooden panels and painted ceilings, would love to see a show here, I can imagine an amazing atmosphere on opera nights. They also have theatre shows here

If you are from Germany, Austria or France, you definitely want to visit the home of the world famous Hungarian operetta. Be prepared that very few performance is so good as it should be in Budapest. Unfortunately in the last years the niveau went down.

The Budapest Operetta Theater puts on Broadway-level musicals. We saw a 1928 production, the Duchess of Chicago. Very dated, but they made it as lively as possible. Decent pit orchestra. The venue is a big old theater lavishly decorated.Lots of restaurants nearby for apres show dining. We got the last two seats together, which happened to be in a box.... More
